THE RIVER ROUTE. If you want to delve into the most natural and authentic heart of Tuscany, admiring breathtaking landscapes, walking amid ancient history mingling with modern day, if you want to swim up a clear and clean river, photograph the local wildlife and have a unique experience, Val d’Elsa is the place for you.
The history of this area traces its origins to the Etruscans, who also inhabited it for much of the Roman period.
With the birth of the Via Francigena, a crucial route for the medieval economy and politics of Tuscany, a new pilgrimage route was created, as it perfectly connected northern Europe (and in particular France and Germany) with Rome, the seat of important institutions of the time, such as the Papacy.
The first thing we recommend is bringing a swimsuit, because the turquoise waters of the river will tempt you to jump in! The trail is completely immersed in nature, with the opportunity to encounter and photograph many fascinating animals that are difficult to find in urban areas.
The river route is about 4 km long, so it’s not complicated. Its distinctive beauty lies in the various marvelous structures scattered along the way, such as rock bridges held by ropes tied from one bank to the other.
Its summer strength lies in the Elsa’s bathing waters, offering visitors the opportunity to bathe in a little corner of earthly paradise. A perfect connection between water and nature, blue and green, man and fauna, flora and air.
Along the entire stretch of the trail, there are several natural pools where you can swim, with various rocks from which to dive or sunbathe, and areas for lounging or enjoying a tasty and invigorating picnic with family or friends.
In addition to relaxation and refreshing swims, along this stretch of the Elsa River you can enjoy other guided experiences such as rafting-type boat trips.
